What is Floatation Therapy?
Floatation Therapy is a holistic health method designed to help you reach "a whole new level of relaxation"™. By Floating effortlessly in 10 inches of Epsom salt-saturated water, all sensory distractions disappear through a weightless and unwinding experience!
Floating can do more than help someone relax! Studies have shown that Floating can give students the "mental edge" that they need to make it through to the end of the semester. It provides an opportunity to reach ultimate stress relief, enhance creativity, heighten concentration, gain an increased ability to learn, improve sleeping habits, and more!
Research is still being done in the world of Floating and scientists are getting closer and closer to unlocking the unbelievable power of this approach to relaxation and mindfulness. What does this mean, exactly? Let's take a look:
1. the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
2. a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
In other words, mindfulness is the act of calmly recognizing and coming to terms with what's happening in your life right here, right now.
"So what does this mean for me, as a student?"
Students are known for having intense, almost overwhelming stimuli: classes, work, internships, extracurriculars, roommates, family, friends, a love life, and minimal alone time. The student lifestyle can be brutal. That's where Floating comes in! At East Coast Float Spa, we truly believe that Floatation Therapy can give students the tools they need to help them reach their potential. With a Team comprised of almost all students, we know just how much Floating can improve our hectic lifestyles!
"Okay, that all sounds great, but isn't this Floating thing kind of expensive?"
We understand that students run on tight budgets. That's why we created our Student Frequent Floater Club and other student-specific pricing options. Occasionally, when midterms wash over the campus in a flood of panic and study sessions, we like to run our Midterm Madness sale, making the decision to Float a no-brainer.
"Sweet! How do I set up a Float?"
Follow the steps below and you'll be on your way to ultimate relaxation! You can find pricing options for student Floats here.
Follow these steps and you'll be on your way to unlocking your first Floatation Therapy experience!
Upload a photo of your student ID or bring it to your scheduled Float. DO NOT FORGET THIS STEP!
If we have no way of verifying that you are a student, we can't give you the student rates. If you already paid for a student Float, you will be required to pay the difference for the cost of a standard Float.
Scheduling a Float online requires prepayment, so check out our student rates! Try to book at least one week in advance to allow for proper planning and preparation. We typically get booked quickly, especially during busy times of day, so you may have to plan further ahead if you want to Float at a popular time!
After you schedule your Float, you'll receive a confirmation email with our New Client Information Form and Waiver for you to complete in advance before you come. This email contains helpful pieces of advice that will better prepare you for your relaxation experience!
Check out the following tips in order to have the best Float possible:
We recommend not shaving, waxing, or tanning within 12-24 hours prior to your Float. Any hair dye or treatment must be washed at least twice before Floating.
Don't come super-hungry or super-full, as either of these could be a distraction during your Float.
We provide just about everything: linens, soap, shampoo/conditioner, hairdryers, lotions, beverages, and much more! Although, you may want to bring things you use after showering, like a hairbrush, contact lenses, or makeup. No need for a bathing suit.
We do have a 24-hour Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy, so just give us a day's notice if you decide you can't make it.
Arrive at East Coast Float Spa!
There is plenty of free parking in the lot, so no hassles there. For your first Float, please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Arriving early will ensure we can give you the best experience possible, ensure you are able to Float for the full duration, and so we can be respectful of all Clients' appointments. Unfortunately, new Clients who do not arrive at least 15 minutes prior may not be able to use the service for which they are scheduled for the entire duration or may be required to reschedule.
It's time to start Floating!
Take a quick pre-Float shower to remove any hair, face, or body products that you have on. Make sure to cover any cuts or scratches with the provided petroleum jelly after you shower.
Insert your new ear plugs to keep the salt out of your ears, and take a step into the Floatation Therapy Room directly from the shower.
After your Float, the light will come on to bring you back, before the filtration system begins a couple minutes later. Take a quick post-Float shower to wash all the Epsom salt off your body, get dressed, and take care of any post-shower rituals you need to. Feel free to use our Vanity Room with complimentary hairdryers, hair detangler, and lotion!
After Floating, head back to our Post Float Lounge for complimentary organic tea and relax for a while before you go (trust us on this one): you can keep relaxing even further and/or try out some of our other relaxation services like our high-end Zero-Gravity Massage Chairs and Oxygen Bar (one free session with each Float as part of the Frequent Floater Club).
Let us know about your experience in our Community Float Journal. Enjoy your post-Float afterglow!
